REAL GOOD PEOPLE
Our friend Andrew Austen was born without his right forearm and hand, but he’s never let that slow him down. Known
to his friends and followers as “Jimmy the Kid” (a college nickname that stuck), he’s a golfer and content creator
dedicated to raising awareness around adaptive sports.
Originally from Philadelphia, he went to The College of Charleston, where he immediately fell in love with the city—
and the area’s world-renowned golf courses. Now, rarely a day goes by that he’s not out hitting the links, but that
wasn’t always the case. “One of my brothers was a really good golfer,” he says. “I played a little bit here and there, but
just couldn’t get into it.” It wasn’t until 2020, when he started playing with a prosthetic arm, that everything changed.
He found his groove and started sharing content on social media as a way to inspire others. “The whole experience
has given me good perspective in my life in that I almost see my arm as a superpower.”
Ultimately, his goal is to prove that golf is a sport for everyone. “Golf is a beautiful game in that everybody has their
own journey,” Andrew says. “You just have to get out there and play, and focus on really enjoying it.” With that kind of
drive, it’s no wonder he’s become a mentor to so many adaptive athletes.
