vineyard vines, EDSFTG

In our minds, the perfect summer day is simple—a day spent out on the water with great views, and great company. Throw a little fishing into the mix, and we’re game. But it wouldn’t be complete without our toes in the sand, cocktail in hand, and our fresh catch on the grill.

If you find yourself on the Vineyard this summer, we hope you’ll visit a few of our favorite spots:

Coop’s Bait & Tackle – Make sure to hit this spot before heading out for a day on the water. It’s your one-stop shop for everything you need (and they always know where the fish are).

Norton Point – Our favorite beach, perfect for sunbathing during the day and casual BBQ’ing at night.

The Seafood Shanty – We love sunset cocktails (and recommend the mudslides).

Dreamland – If a day on the water doesn’t tire you out, head over to Dreamland for a great mix of live music.

Stay tuned for more entries of Shep & Ian’s Logbook and remember to tag your photos with #HowDoYouSummer

We met… Through mutual friends in New York City.

The proposal… Was in our Manhattan apartment, the Saturday before Christmas. After breakfast, Adam got down on one knee in front of the Christmas tree in our living room. Not being quite awake yet, I was shocked, but of course I said YES! Champagne celebrations followed for the rest of the day. It was the best way to start off the holiday season.

The wedding was … At Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port, MA, on December 13, 2014. I (Julia) grew up on Cape Cod and once we toured Wychmere, we knew it would be perfect for our seaside winter wedding.

We incorporated VV into our special day by…. I work at vineyard vines in the corporate office and knew I had to incorporate VV into our special day. Adam’s groomsmen, our fathers and our officiant all wore custom Champagne Bow ties and pocket squares. Special thanks to Lizzy Whiteley in the custom department for helping bring these bow ties and pocket squares to life!

Special thanks to our photographer, Amy Dykens, for capturing our wedding!

Couple’s Name… Alden (bride) and Harris Fontaine

We met… I ended up moving to Houston for a job (which I never ever thought I would do!) and we met out one night through a mutual pal (Jim Thomson–we owe you!!) who grew up with Harris and went to Vanderbilt with me. Harris preceded to tell me a ghost story or two over a round of brews and the rest is history…

The proposal… Harris invited me to go away for a solo weekend with just him out to his parent’s farm (about an hour outside Houston) to get some needed R&R. After waking me up from a nice siesta, he convinced me to take a walk around the property with him, where eventually (after a couple mosquito swarms!) we ended up at the top of a hill overlooking the lake at sunset, with a champagne picnic awaiting us.  Needless to say, he completely shocked me (I was wearing pajamas and a sweatband on my head!) and of course I said yes!! We got to enjoy this very special moment, just the two of us, and then ran back home to call all our friends and family!

The wedding was…  At St. George’s in Newport, Rhode Island on August 30, 2014. I went to boarding school at St. George’s, plus my family has been going to Watch Hill, RI every summer for years, so Harris knew how special Newport is to me. Luckily he was totally onboard with hauling all our Texas/Southern friends and relatives up for our wedding weekend!

Getting married in my high school chapel– which Harris and I feel is one of the most incredible chapels we’ve ever stepped foot in– followed by our reception at the stunning New York Yacht Club right on the water…let’s just say everything was freakishly beautiful and perfect!

We incorporated VV into our special day …. In a BIG way, thanks to Ian (my cousin’s amazing husband!) who set us up with Lizzy Whitely and her awesome team to create our custom tie! Harris is a huge “Dead Head” and wanted to use the Grateful Dead dancing bear as the main design element, which VV did in a classy, good looking way! We were THRILLED with the final product and now we have a really cool, one-of-a-kind tie that will always remind us (plus the groomsmen and both our fathers) of our Newport weekend!

A special thanks to our photographer, Bruce Plotkin, for capturing all the beautiful moments!

Sailing through August up in Newport, Rhode Island, Jess from Prosecco & Plaid pieces together the perfect outfit for a midday cruise. We love the way she styled our Sailboat Print Dress with a shawl, statement necklace, and large sunglasses. Her blue cross body bag plays into the blue on the sails of the dress, completing the outfit. Nice job, Jess!

We met… Three years ago, on the same day as Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade! We were introduced by a close mutual friend. The luck of the Irish was clearly on our side that day!

The proposal… Bret proposed to me at the annual Suzanne Donlin Kelly Memorial Golf Tournament; an event founded in honor of his late mother. The proceeds of the tournament go directly to a scholarship in her name at Boston College High School. Just as the field of 150 golfers (our closest friends and family) were about to tee off, Bret commandeered the microphone and asked me to be his wife. We like to think that Bret’s mother was there in spirit, as this is an all-day event celebrating family, friends and sport!

The wedding venue Our wedding took place on June 20, 2014, in Cohasset Massachusetts. The Reception was held at Atlantica, a location that boasts beautiful views of the harbor and the moored lobster boats. In essence, we had the quintessential New England backdrop for our special day!

We incorporated VV into our special day by…. In every way possible! The vineyard vines apparel and accessories embody our relationship – fun, whimsical, and full of life! It wasn’t even a question that we wanted to have our entire wedding party outfitted in VV. The bridesmaids’ dresses & flower girl’s dress, with their nautical strip and mixed patterns, gave us the platform and theme for our entire wedding/reception: nautical chic! The men’s Polka Dot Whale Ties complimented the wedding colors: navy, white and raspberry! Finally, if there was one thing we knew our wedding would involve, it was going to be a whole lot of dancing! Our guests did not disappoint. My bridesmaids and I were all too happy to slip into our navy blue and white polka dot VV flip flops at the reception!

Wedding Wednesday, EDSFTG, vineyard vines, ties, preppy

We met… In science class, freshman year of high school (2005).

The proposal… In Rockefeller Center right in front of the Christmas tree, back in December, 2012.

The wedding venue… Laurita Winery! We were married on July 5th, 2014.

We incorporated VV into our special day by… We gave our wedding a color that would POP! What better way than by putting our guys in rhubarb Club Pants and the Starfish Tie in pink? Some gents rocked the Fish Hook Belt, while the groom wore the classic Anchor Belt and Race Stripe Socks in slate. They even had the “Every Day Should Feel This Good” croakies in navy (not pictured).

The Friday Five

Jun 27, 2014

Back to School- I’ll be enrolling at UVA Business School (Darden) this fall.

Dream Destination- I would really like to visit my little sister in Billings Montana this summer. I would love to see Glacier National Park with her and bring my #pants along for the journey.

The VV Poplin Breaker Pants in Genoa have got to be my favorite. They are so comfortable and very light and the color really pops. The first night I wore them (Wedding in Charleston), people all night were asking me who made them, where they could buy them, etc.

Summer Vacation- I am most excited about a father-son trip to Royal Isabela in Puerto Rico at the end of July. We’re planning on playing 36 holes of golf a day, getting some grass court tennis in, riding waves and learning how to surf on their beautiful beaches. We’ll also probably go on a birding trip – my Dad’s latest obsession.

EDSFTG- I get the #EDSFTG feeling every time I visit my parents on Daufuskie Island, SC. The island is gorgeous and loaded with wildlife, and we’re always outside doing activities. Whether I’m golfing in the afternoons or barefoot waterskiing at the crack of dawn, I can’t help but feel like #EDSFTG when on Daufuskie (especially in the right pair of #pants).

Meet Hartford Prints! A letterpress studio and stationery store that was created by three sisters: Addy, Callie and Rory. With a modern and fun twist, these sisters create stunning wedding invitations and greeting cards with a boatload of talent. Check out the beautiful invitations they concocted with our Sailboat Print Sundress as their inspiration!

The sisters use an old-fashioned form of relief printing and their work is “truly a labor of love.” They work with their clients to understand the style, look and feel of their wedding in order to design the perfect invitation suite. The result is a timeless, one-of-a-kind piece that clients can treasure forever.

“Inspired by sailboats and sea breezes, this invitation design combines graphic layouts with geometric patterns to create a truly modern wedding invitation. Playing with negative and positive space, the navy-inked pattern references nautical elements while the blind embossment adds interesting texture. Paired with a beautiful script font for a playful pop of color, this wedding invitation suite is simple in its elegance and perfectly preppy.”
