With a dinghy and a dream we set sail to find the Good Life

Welcome Aboard!

As you can see, John Whitney is driven. Actually he's driving-a chase boat to be more specific-around Virgin Gorda in the BVI, helping set up the race course at this year's Bitter End Yacht Club Pro Am Regatta. What you can't see, however, is that John is disabled. Born with a birth defect, his left foot was amputated when John was seven months old, leaving him with one prosthetic leg. But that has never gotton in John's way.

Today, John, a recent graduate of Ithaca College, lives the ultimate dream of sea and ski. In the summer months he hangs by the coast, serving as Waterfront Programs Director at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, CT, where he's in charge of local sailing programs. But once the last boat is stored for the season, he heads west to Winter Park, CO, for his shot at first tracks. John has professionally ski-raced for the past few years. His unstoppable determination caught the attention of the US Paralympic Team, who nominated him to race in both the World Championships in Austria and the Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy, two winters ago.

This spring we let John product-test our new Batik Shirt a little early (it'll be available in April). But after hearing about some of his achievements on the slopes, we can't think of anyone better qualified to put our Nor'easter Jacket through the paces next winter.
