Every town has that place where people go to get some good grub and hear the local news. In Edgartown, that place is the Dock Street Coffee Shop a.k.a. "Dock Street" and it is an island institution. Back in the day, it was where we went when the bars closed. Today, it's a favorite breakfast and lunch spot. We would know-we're there almost every morning.
Dock Street is the kind of place where a grilled cheese is $3.25 and bug juice is always on the menu (that menu being a hand-written board, of course). It's a place where fat cats and salty dogs wait in line together and sit elbow to elbow at barstools to get a taste of the famous Egg Mac (an Egg McMuffin-type creation) cooked by Don, a man who can only be described as a wizard on the griddle. Trust us, you've never seen anything like it-Don is all business and is very good at what he does. We've seen him crack five eggs in one hand at the same time-well not really, but we bet he can.
The rest of the place is left to the ladies, Emily, Vanessa, Shivonne, Janey and Sophie (pictured), and we can't forget Mary and Sandy and the rest of the crew either. These women always serve up a smile with the morning coffee. But you better get there early, because stools are hard to come by.
